Corona Lake has continued to crank out a lot of limits of rainbows thanks to another big plant of Nebraska Tailwalkers last week, but more of the monster rainbows planted this year are finally starting to show in better numbers. The big fish this past week was a 17 1/2-pounder landed by Art Montoya, Azusa, fising chartreuse floating bait from shore. Manuel Fernandez, Ontario, had a 10 1/2-pound rainbow fishing from a boat with red floating bait, while a 10-pound rainbow was caught by Bruce Robinson, Romoland, to top off his 21-pound, five-fish stringer. Wilson Bor, San Bernardino, landed a 9 1/4-pound rainbow. Some of the better stringers reported including a four-fish, 14-pound catch made by Brad Donahue, Chino, that was topped off with a five-pounder. Roger Camping and Lee Kakuk, both Chino Hills, landed a double limit that weighed 28 pounds and included a 3-10 trout. J.B. and Brock Oldenkamp, both Riverside, had nine rainbows for 28 pounds, including a 4-4. The usual array of floating baits in chartreuse, green, rainbow, and garlic have all been very productive, but some of the best stringer have come from boat or float tube anglers fishing small trout jigs and plastics. Top spots have been near the dam and the far side of the lake, but fish are showing all around Corona Lake.

The already-hot action is going to get even better for the President's Day holiday with the season's first plant of the popular Lightning Trout. Not only with Corona Lake get a huge load of one to three pound Lightnings, but there will also be some broodstock Lightning Trout from five to 10 pounds planted this week. President's Day weekend is also the next 24-hour fishing weekend and because of the Monday holiday anglers will be able to buy 24-hour passes Feb. 18, 19, and 20. Camping is free for 24-hour pass holders. Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these passes is $22. Seniors pay only $20. All of these passes have a five-fish limit. For kids 4 to 13, a three-fish pass is just $9. The 24-hour passes are available the weekend nearest the full moon each month, with the next overnight fishing set for Feb. 18-19. These passes cost $60 and anglers can bring a spouse and up to three kids to help fill the 24-hour pass 15-fish limit. Camping at Corona Lake is also free with a 24-hour pass.
