This week the trout fishing was excellent this past week, with more anglers able to scratch limits, and 3 to 4 lb. fish common. The fish are still up on top, and flat-lined broken back rapalas, kastmasters, and super dupers were the top baits. The 'bows are all over the lake now, but the best areas were still Cachumas Bay, Santa Cruz Bay, and in front of Harvey Bay. Shore anglers also did well, with power bait, and or nightcrawlers the best offerings. Santa Barbara Co. will be providing another 4000 lbs. of quality Calaveras trout scheduled to arrive on the 11th of January. So look for the action to get red-hot this following week. Bass fishing was fair for both smallmouth and largemouth bass, with the bass holding in the 20 to 30 ft. range. Jig and pig, and creature baits the top producers. Crappie made a decent showing in Santa Cruz Bay, and many anglers reported 315 trout, 24 bass and 14 crappie for a 2.16 per fish per rod average. Water temperature is 57.
