Lake Elevation: 1691.98
Surface water temp: 78-82 degrees
Fish Plants: Scheduled trout plants will resume when surface temps decrease.
Lake Hours: 6:30am -- 6:00pm
Weather: Temperatures have been in the 70's in the morning and rising to the mid 90's in the afternoon.
BASS
DVL is still wide open! Anglers are getting satisfaction with the topwater action. Poppers, Zara spooks and puppies, Vixens, Rapala jerkbaits, Z plugs, and Sammie's. The scrounger fluke combo is still an excellent choice to catch bass bustin' the bait. You can't go wrong with senkos or drop shot finesse worms in standard colors for mid day fishing. The afternoon will typically be a great time to throw spinners or buzz baits.
TROUT
DVL anglers saw few trout this week. Most recent reports have them between 30 and 60 feet on the west side of the lake. Nightcrawlers, Rapalas, and spoons are a few of the most common summer trout baits.
STRIPER
DVL is nuthin' but striper, striper, and more striper. Kastmasters, Krocodiles, Needlefish, scroungers, underspins and topwater shad baits are the hot stuff for DVL striper. Jesse Mena of hemet caught a 9.72 pound striper fishing near the tower with a Krocodile. Mike southerland of Fontana caught a 22.25 pound striper fishing along the west dam with a Z plug. Johnathan Sacca of Glendora caught two stripers at 2 pounds each fishing west of the launch ramp. Jared Sacca of Glendora caught a couple 2 pounders fishing the second cove west of the marina. Robert Conrad caught an 18.88 pound striper fishing near the marina with a Krocodile. Honree Davis of Winchester caught a 16 poundstriper fishing with a kastmaster. Steve McCrea of Yucaipa caught a 15.64 pound striper fishing the east dam with a scrounger. Rick, Jim, and Park Vano caught a total of 140 pounds of striper fishing with topwater lures along the west dam. Mark Franco reported a total of 520 pounds of striper over a three day period. He had back to back days of 140 pound limits and a third day total of 240 pounds. He was fishing spoons, topwater, and scroungers.
CATFISH
The catfish bite is still strong. Anchovies, mackerel, or chicken liver are the recommended baits for cats. Rosalina mason of San Jacinto caught a 12.85 pound cat fishing with mackerel near the wave attenuator.
PANFISH
Bluegill is bold but crappie is spotty. Shore anglers should fish in the twigs with worms or jigs. From a boat fish the dams with a worm and a float.
