Lake Hours: 6:00am -- 7:00pm
Weather: Temperatures have been in the 70's in the morning and rising to the mid 90's in the afternoon.
BASS
Bass fishing at DVL remains great. Folks are still reporting phenomenal numbers of 2-3 pound fish with a few whoppers in the mix. Flukes are the hot bait right now. You can fish them with scroungers, underspins, darter heads, or just fly lined. Topwater lures in shad pattern for the morning bite: Spooks, Xraps, Tango dancers, Sammy's, and Zplugs are just a few great choices. The majority of reports have bass holding between 20 and 40 feet on main lake points. Plastics are king for deep fishing in the afternoon. There is always a non- stop drop shot bite at DVL. Finesse worms in morning dawn, margarita mutilator, prism shad, and watermelon with red flake are the best choices. Or try the Carolina rig. It works best with worms as large as 16 inches in dark brown, black, and dark purple. Jesse Dinkins of Nuevo enjoyed s nearly wide open bite fishing flukes in the morning. Devin Certer of Temecula caught an 8.1 pound bass fishing with a Spro swimbait. Mike Collins of San Jacinto caught his 2 biggest bass at 6 pounds each fishing big worms at 15 feet on the east dam. Gabriel Hamel of Nuevo caught his first DVL bass at 2.3 pounds. He was fishing from shore with a drop shot rigged bluegill Roboworm.
TROUT
DVl trout are still out. There were few reports of trout being caught this week. Fishing nightcrawlers near the dams has yielded results in the past. Most trout have been caught between 30 and 60 feet. Steve Tashiki of Boyle Heights caught a 5 pound trout drifting a nightcrawler at 30 feet near the saddle dam.
STRIPER
There is still a steady flow of stripers being caught mostly in the morning. Shad lures are the ticket. Flukes with scroungers or underspins, Rapala x raps or coundowns, poppers, spooks, and 400 series Z plugs are all heavily reported baits.
CATFISH
Fishing at DVL for a channel or blue cut bait will do. Anchovies, Mackerel or shrimp won't leave your line limp. The attenuator is the best place to anchor to catch a cat just like that. Robert Rodriguez of Romoland caught an 11.11 pound catfish using mackerel on shore. Victor Gutierrez caught a 13.75 pound cat fishing the west shoreline with Mackerel. Albert and Eric Flores of Riverside caught a 7 and 10 pound cat fishing near the marina with anchovies.
PANFISH
Bluegill is bold but crappie is spotty. Shore anglers should fish in the twigs with worms or jigs. From a boat fish the dams with a worm and a float.
