BASS
For DVL anglers the morning bite is wide open. Shad baits either topwater lures or scroungers are hooking the majority of bass in the morning. For mid day and afternoon fishing, underspins or plastics are the way to go. Underspins are great for bass on deeper running shad schools where plastics are effective for bass holding close to structure. Matt Holdeman of Hemet released 7 bass fishing with spins in the southwest corner of the lake. Kevin Deemer of Hemet released 7 bass fishing with spinners in the southwest corner. Jesse Mena of Hemet caught his biggest bass at 4 pounds fishing topwater in the morning.
TROUT
DVL trout are hard to find and even harder to catch. Reports have them in the south corner of the west dam, near restroom 3 and the inlet. Depths vary from 15-50 feet. With the abundance of shad in the water shad spoons or Rapalas should be your best bet. Tyler Loveridge of Moreno Valley caught a 5.36 pound trout fishing near the rock quarry with a plastic worm.
STRIPER
Anglers reported a few small striper catches this week on scroungers and underspins. The most reported spots are the north corner of the east dam, near the inlet, and by restroom 2. Paul McEwen of Oceanside caught 2 stripers at 12.6 and 13.7 pounds fishing with a fish trap near the marina.
CATFISH
Anglers have been consistently catching cats from shore as well as boats. Mackerel and anchovies have been the most reported baits, but shrimp and chicken liver has accounted for a few reports. The most reported areas have been the third cove west of the marina, Rawson cove, near the inlet, and along the east dam.
PANFISH
The panfish bite is wide open! Anglers reported mass quantities of blue gill with a few red ear an crappie in the mix. Mini jigs, mealworms, and nightcrawlers fished along the dams will guarantee some family fun.
