The lake level remained near 81 percent of its storage capacity and water temperatures fell into the mid to low sixties. High winds have been a regular occurrence lately and launching was not guaranteed. Be sure to call the lake before making the drive. Bass anglers worked deeper in the water column with finesse stuff. Large and smallmouth fell for drop shot Senkos, Roboworms, and shaky heads in 10 to 30 feet of water. Main and secondary points were the best places to locate biting bass. A few topwater bass were reported, but that bite is virtually dead. Striped bass also transitioned away from the surface, and they have focused deeper in the water column. Anglers used umbrella rigs, swimbaits, and trolled flies in 25 to 50 feet of water to land some good quality fish. Catfish anglers soaked cut sardines and dip bait along the dam. Anglers should also consider getting ready for trout season. Castaic Lake is cold, and Pyramid received its first plant last week.
