Anglers reported fair fishing in the southern aqueduct. Of course, few anglers have been willing to brave the triple digit temperatures. Striped bass ate cut sardines, anchovies, and jumbo live minnows after check gates. A few topwater jailbirds were reported by anglers fishing just before sunrise. Bass anglers used weightless green pumpkin Senkos and drop shot grubs to land largemouth near bridge pylons and in the eddies. Catfish have been the best bet, and anglers reported fishing at night to be the best way to fill a stringer. Dip baits, cut baits, and chicken liver all took fish. An 18-pound catfish was reported last week.
