The lake rose to 75 percent of capacity, and it looks like we may reach full pool for the spring fishing season. The last time Castaic rose from below 50 percent of capacity to full pool anglers reported phenomenal fishing for all species in the months following the rise in water levels. Recently, anglers reported fair fishing as the waters are still dirty and cold. The spring bite is just around the corner, and anglers should be ready for the bite to turn on with the next full moon. Finesse baits, small jigs, and shaky heads should do the trick. Last week striper anglers reported an improved bite on smaller grade linesides. The jailbirds ate cut sardines and lugworms in 25 to 90 feet of water. Trolling umbrella rigs also nabbed a fair number of fish. Catfish anglers reported decent fishing along the dam and the coves east of the marina. Anglers soaked dip bait, cut baits, and chicken liver for bites.
