The shad have started showing up in bigger schools around the lake and has made for
some decent fishing. Most mornings and afternoons have been productive. A lot of boils have been seen lately of both largemouth and stripers. They are sometimes mixed in with each other but for the most part largemouth have been chasing bait in the coves, and the stripers more so on the points and main channels of the lake.

The largemouth bite, when not on the surface, has been mostly bottom fishing with finesse plastics. Any shad-colored worm has been working well.

The stripers are also feeding off the bottom when not boiling, and have been biting off sardines, anchovies, and lug worms around 20-40 feet. There also have been a few reports of a couple nicer sized striper caught on the troll. Umbrella rigs were the bait of choice. Other than that, the good old trusty nightcrawler has been working good for a variety of species.

Catfish have also been on the chew, mostly biting anglers’ baits while soaking for stripers. People targeting the cats have been using some homemade concoctions such as chicken liver in garlic, chicken chunks in Kool-Aid, and anchovy heads.

The bluegill and crappie have been a little more elusive lately and the lower lagoon has
been a better area for these species lately. Hold-over trout are being caught occasionally, but our next trout plant will not be until around Halloween.
