Fishing has been picking up at Cachuma. Bass are currently in prespawn and can be found in shallow waters. Best near the island where water is murky. Recommend lures with dark colors, red or orange. Crankbaits, jigs, swimbaits and drop shot are all solid options. Crappie fishing is still going strong, they can also be found near the island. Trolling with spoons and small flicker shads or sitting in one spot with crappie jigs or nightcrawlers works well. Trout fishing has slowed down significantly but that will assumedly change once the lake is stocked for the derby. Best methods for trout are still trolling and sitting with powerbait. Anything with bright colors works well. Catfish and bluegill are still slow but are shown sign of picking up. Recently some customers caught several catfish near the island. One lucky angler caught a nice one pound bluegill not too far away from the marina. The trout derby us happened on the 23rd to the 24th. Registration and more info can be found at the tackle shop.
