Castaic Lake fell to 28 percent of capacity, and water temperatures have been in the low eighties. Lake staff reported that Castaic is nearing the projected drawdown level, and everyone has high hopes that the construction completion date will hold true for January of 2022. Anglers continued their assault on the striper and bass last week with striper limits and great bassin’. Bass anglers threw buzz baits, Zara Puppies, and small poppers for some excellent topwater action. Drop shot, Green Pumpkin Senkos, and Carolina rigged Little Sluggers did most of the work after the sun got hot. Flutter spoons have been a good option after anglers meter some deeper fish. Both bass and striper have been responding to the spoon bite. Striper have also been biting Kastmaster, Jerkbaits, and topwater throughout the lake. Flycoring and umbrella riggs are fooling plenty of line sides as well. Catfish anglers couldn’t keep the whisker fish off their lines last week while using cut baits, dip bait, and chicken liver for some impressive catches.
