Fish Plants: DFG has been dropping thousands of pounds of trout. DVL will stock 1000 pounds of Mt. Lassen trout this week of January 22nd.
Lake Hours: 7:00am to 4:00pm
Weather: The weather has been warm up to the 80's with little or no wind.
BASS
Bass are in their typical winter mode. Some fish can be caught early and late on swimbaits. For the remainder of the day, bass have been caught on the jigs and football jigs 50-60 feet down. Thomas Hyde of Imperial Beach caught a 8.5 pound bass fishing along the west dam with a swimbait. Alex Nowicki released a 3 pound smallmouth fishing with a nightcrawler near the east dam.
TROUT
There has been a decent trout bite for shore anglers as well as boaters. The east dam and the third cove to the right of the marina have been the most reported spots for great trout action. Alex Nowicki of Wildomar caught four trout totaling 17 pounds his biggest at 5 pounds. He was fishing near the east dam with nightcrawlers. Craig Adkinson of Team Phenix rods caught a 10.10 pound trout fishing with mini jigs near the east dam.
STRIPER
The striper bite has slowed tremendously due in part to warmer weather. Swimbaits and topwater lures generally work well for striper. Stripers have been caught from the surface down to 50 feet. Trolling with lead core line will help get your lure to desired depths.
CATFISH
2009 has already proven to be great for big cats. Eddy Gonzales caught a 20.28 pound catfish fishing near the east dam with mackerel. Kevin Kohlbatz of San Jacinto caught a 22.09 pound catfish using shrimp in the third cove to the right of the marina.
PANFISH
There were no panfish reports this week. The panfish bite has been slow and will probably remain that way until surface temps increase in the spring.
