BASS

Anglers have been finding it increasingly difficult to catch bass. Decreasing surface temps have driven bass to deeper water. Catches between 40 and 50 feet have not been uncommon. Ice jigs, Carolina rigged plastics, and underspins got the deep bass this week. There have been some exceptions with bass still being caught on surface swimbaits and shaker heads.

TROUT

Trout fishing at DVL has been great for some, but fair for most. There were some notable fish this week, but over all quantities were low. Nightcrawlers, Kastmasters, mini jigs, Powerbait, and trout worms have been the best baits to use for trout. Along the east dam, and the third cove to the right of the marina were the best reported spots this week. Jacob Nowicki of Wildomar caught a 4.5 pound trout fishing from shore with a nightcrawler. Ty Smith of Chino caught a 2.5 pound trout fishing with powerbait

STRIPER

Striper continued to bite this week, but not as feverishly as weeks past. The Z plug, rock Hard, and Shakerheads remained the best baits for striper. Cha Yang of Banning caught a 23.7 pound striper fishing with swimbait on the west side of the lake. Patrick Ohanlon of Aguanga caught a 20.54 pound striper fishing with a bbc-1 swimbait in the 1st cove of shoreline.

CATFISH

Catfish has not been the preferred speicies for anglers, but those targeting cats have done quite well. Terry "Pontoon" Lairson of Huntington Beach caught his two biggest cats at 11.50 and 10.50 fishing with mackerel near the quarry. Chris "Trollmeister" Hagopian of Redondo Beach caught his two biggest at 13.57 and 11.2 pounds also fishing with mackerel near the quarry.

PANFISH

There were no panfish reports this week. The panfish bite has been slow and will probably remain that way until surface temps increase in the spring.
