DON'T MISS OUT---- On these great fishing opportunities---- BE THERE!!!
The rainbow trout bite is very good at Corona Lake with anglers weighed in at least 14 trout at or over the five pound mark during the past week, but there has also been a good bite on catfish, tilapia, and crappie.
The top trout was an 8 1/2-pound rainbow caught by Don Burke of Hemet while fishing with Power Bait from shore, while Walk Harrison, Mira Loma, and Jim Patterson, Bell Gardens, had four trout that weighed in at 21 pounds, including an 8 1/4-pounder. The pair were using green Nitro Bait at the boat ramp to make their catch.
Here were two 7 1/2-pound rainbows caught. Andrew Perry of Upland and Matt Thomas of Riverside were the two lucky anglers who landed those trout. Perry was using nightcrawlers at mid lake, while Thomas was fishing with a Lip RippeZ.
The catfish action also continues good for the few anglers fishing the channels. Most are using mackerel and fishing near the flooded timber. Adam Sokoloski, Yucaipa, landed a seven-pound catfish, while Curtis Keith, Riverside, landed six cats that weighed 13 1/2 pounds total, including a four-pounder.
Tilapia are also showing in improved numbers thanks to the warm weather that kicked water temperatures up in the shallow parts of the lake. Anglers fishing nightcrawlers are trout have been pleasantly surprised by tilapia up to four pounds.
Lastly, the crappie action has been a surprise for anglers fishing small jigs. Scott Noble, Riverside, landed a 2 1/2-pound crappie, a trout, and four catfish, all on jigs.
Corona Lake is planted with trout every Wednesday, and the holiday season means there will be plants of huge rainbows and some opportunities to win some Christmas cash. The first plant of huge, 20-plus pound Mt. Lassen Trout Farms rainbows will go in on Wednesday, Nov. 26. The lake will be close on 2 p.m. this date, before the trout are stocked, and then the lake will also be closed for Thanksgiving day. It will reopen on Friday at the usual time. This will be the first time this season anglers will have a chance to catch these huge fish.
Then coming in December, there will be two events to mark on the calendar: First, on Wednesday, Dec. 17, Corona Lake will be stocked with the largest Nebraska Tailwalkers the Chaulk Mound Trout Farm has to offer. This will be followed with a special $20 buy-in trout derby on Sunday, Dec. 21. The entry fee is in addition to the usual lake entrance, but all derby entry money will be awarded to the anglers catching the five biggest trout caught that day. The biggest fish will win half the derby money, the second biggest will get 20 percent, the third biggest 15 percent, the fourth biggest will win 10 percent, and the fifth largest trout will get five percent.
Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these passes are $22. Seniors only pay $20, with a special $17 pass sold on Wednesdays. All of these passes have a five-fish limit. For kids 4 to 13, a three-fish pass is just $9. The once-monthly 24-hour passes remain just $60 with the next 24-hour fishing set for Dec. 12-13. These passes have a 15-fish limit.
