Bass: The longevity of largemouth action at DVL remains beyond compare. Most bass have been holding between 10-25 feet and biting on a variety of baits. Texas rigged brushogs or lizards in watermelon colors, fat Ikas in a host of colors, Drop shot rigged straight tail plastics in bold blue gill or morning dawn, and Senkos have all done well. Jerk baits, jigs and cranks have also got their share of fish recently.

Jeff Alley of palm desert got untold amounts of 2-47 pound bass with his biggest at 5 fishing the south shore with 4" lizards. Jim Salk of Riverside got a 7 pound bass fishing the south shore with a purple plastic worm. The National Bass West tournament last Saturday confirmed the outstanding bass bite. Team Linehan got third with a three fish limit of 19.67. second place went to the Jioras with an impressive 20.57 pounds for three fish. Top team Haring /Uribe got an outstanding three fish bag weighing 24.99.

Trout: The trout have gone underground. Boaters toiled this week for trout that have dropped to 50 feet. Boaters have had their best luck trolling nightcrawlers, Rapalas, Excel lures, or Needlefish within the first 50 feet of water. The entire west half of the lake from restroom 3, the west dam, and the inlet tower have been holding rainbows. Eric Okino of Los Alamitos got a 3.8 pound trout fishing deep with nightcrawlers near restroom 3. Ken Mattice of Monrovia got a 5.6 pound trout trolling an Excel lure at 30 feet on the west side .

Striper: There were no striper reports this week Trout swim baits, Plugs or large topwater baits were the most reported lures for striper.

Catfish: There has been a catfish clear out at DVL! Great spots for catfish are the third cove of shoreline fishing, and near the east dam or wave attenuator. The most effective baits included anchovies, mackerel, and shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 10-20 feet down. Jimmy Manrique of Hemet weighed in 80 pounds of stink bait hungry catfish all from the third cove of shore fishing. Ernest Montoya of Perris got a 13.95 pound catfish fishing in the third cove with nightcrawlers. Kevin D Bath of Yucaipa got the biggest catfish of the week with a 30 pound channel. Kevin was fishing a north shore cove with mackerel and amazingly landed this near lake record with only 6 pound test.

Panfish: There were few panfish reports this week, but most anglers have the best luck fishing along the dams, specifically near the stairways. Anglers have found that fishing 20 -30 feet off the dams using live worm dropped to 25 feet has been a consistent method.
