Bushel baskets of big ???bows brought in at Corona Lake over the past week

Trout fishing stayed hot with lots of rainbows over 10-pounds landed this past week at Corona Lake. The "Sierra Rainbows" planted last week also made an immediate impact on the fishing with many boat anglers catching this "wilder" strain of fish.

The bite on trout is still very good with the best action for boat anglers. Due to warmer water temperatures the trout are staying in the deep water. Dough baits and nightcrawlers have both been working well for trout.

Top fish this past week was an 18-4 rainbow caught by Marcos Perez, Corona. Perez' fish was hardly the only trout over 10 pounds caught this week though. Johnny Moore, Rancho Cucamonga, landed a 13-4, Mark Thompson, Riverside, caught a 12-pounder, and Frank Patella, Alta Loma, caught an 11-5. Top stringer this week was caught by Dale Cotton, Orange, who had three rainbows totaling 37-8. Each of Cotton's three fish was over the 10-pound mark.

More and more catfish are being reported each week with the majority being caught on mackerel and shrimp. There also continue to be some panfish ??? bluegill and crappie ??? and bass caught each week.

Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these $20 passes has a five-fish limit. The popular 24-hour fishing passes are offered on Friday and Saturday nights on the weekend nearest the full moon. These passes have a 15-fish limit and cost $60. The family special, where mom and up to three kids 12 or under can help dad catch his limit, will apply on these all-night passes.
