The bass bite has been very good over the last couple weeks. Many anglers caught limits of strong, healthy small and largemouth. The sallies ranged from 1.5 to 2.5lbs while the largemouth ranged 2-3Ibs. Most were caught off the rock walls on the main lake as the launch point and east end of Cachuma point proved to be hot spots. Spinners, shad baits, purple plastics, and even poppers in the early morning all worked well this week. A few fishermen reported limits of catfish as well ranging from 1-3lbs a fish. All reported cats were caught on cut mackerel.

Despite the heavy afternoon winds and minor rain this week, every species in the lake was caught besides the carp. A few hold over rainbow trout came up to the top to bite night crawler by the dam, and even a couple redear hit back to back off Santa Cruz Point. The bass and catfish bite was excellent this week. Shad are boiling all around the marina and Mohawk Bay making the bass hit virtually any kind of shad bait. Floating live worms off the bottom and sinking mackerel has been consistently bringing in catfish from 1 – 3lbs around Drake Cove especially. Many bluegill were caught off small jigs and cut nightcrawlers off the shore by the launch ramp. For boaters, Jack Rabbit Flats seemed to produce the bigger bass....... Read More
