Fishing improved a bit this week. The weather was a bit cooler at the onset of the week, but the afternoons warmed up and no wind - all in all it was a very beautiful weekend - with Fall just around the corner. The leaves that had been changing color seem to be on hold (maybe the speck of rain we had last week gave them a bit of a boost). Not sure when things may pick back up.
Once again, fishing the Dingleberry Inlet with worms or PowerBait brought in a few limits as did those trolling with flasher and worms. The shore anglers were also seen using worms and PowerBait, but the hot ticket was just drifting between the rock piles. Opal Valenti along with daughters Donna Curtner (caught a 4 pounder a couple of weeks ago) and Carol Leonard showed up quite a few anglers catching and releasing over 20 fishing and all keep full limits - all were caught on worms. Good Job, Gals!
The Department of Fish and Game did not stock the lake this week. If you happen to catch a fish with a tag in the gill, it`s just to let you know the DFG are stocking with some larger fish. We ask that you all be real careful this year and remember Smokey`s Motto - "Only YOU can prevent Forest Fires!"
We are definitely in the Fall weather pattern - cool in the mornings - mid 40s (32 degrees as South Lake on Thursday) and a bit cooler in the campgrounds while the afternoons are getting up in to the high 60s. Haven`t gotten to listen to the weather guess for the week.
Rick and I are taking our anniversary trip next week up over Piute pass to Muriel Lake to fish for some goldens so there will be no fishing report next week unless I get into high gear and get it done on Saturday.
Nimrod`s become a bit more sure footed - no dips in the lake in the last couple of weeks. He is still the 'green` kitty "Catching and Releasing" what he catches. Lo`s hair is growing out into his winter coat. And Hi is still just being Hi.
We have our fleet of green fishing boats, 2 kayaks for rent along with a canoe and the Party Boat (pontoon boat) which has propane BBQ for those wanting to fry up some burgers or hot dogs with out on the lake and keep on fishing.
We had a black lab that got out of the owner`s truck on Thursday, May 17th. It was picked up by a father and son who were in a gray - gold - taupe Chevy Z71 extended cab. Please give us a call if you happened to have picked up the dog. The owner extended his trip, stopped by the lake 3 mornings hoping the people who picked up his dog had come back to see if anyone had lost a dog.
Our summer hours are 7:00am to 7:00pm. The cafe will be serving Breakfast from 7:00am to 11:00am and Lunch from 11:00am to 4:00pm everyday at least through Labor Day.
Remember your polarizers, sunscreen, bug juice and PONCHO along with a few layers of clothes - just in case.
