Every time I'm on the Mirage with Captain Joe Villareal, I always wish I could stay longer. I always enjoy my trip on the boat. Time flies so quickly. I got at the dock early and met John Knoble, our SFR regular, already sitting there with Junior. Of course, I met Captain Joe and his wife Erin. I started the trip, as usual, with raffle time. I brought in lots of SEAGUAR FLUOROCARBON LINES, FISHWORKS VISOR and lots of SFR T-SHIRTS. Winners were happy to receive their prizes.
We went straight to Santa Rosa Island and set up the Squid lights around about 2:30 am. We loaded up about 200 plus Squid on our tank. But the way John Knoble was hot on those squid. He's our Squid Jedi. The weather at the island was just flat and calm. We stayed a little bit at the same spot waiting for the Seabass to stop by. No caller so we moved to a couple secret spots of Captain Joe but no biter. We did get a 16 lb Halibut by Mike Coughlin that won him the jackpot.
After that Captain Joe decided to go for Rockcod fishing. I used my Shimano Butterfly selections and they're just darn hot. Every body started loading up their sacks. We got plenty of Vermilion Reds, Chucklehead, Blues and assorted Rockfish. Lots of double hook ups. What an outstanding day. Pretty darn good fishing!!! Ramil Gatchalian landed a 10.5 lb Lingcod. Good job. We ended up limits of Rockcod, 3 Lingcod, 8 Sheephead. Another successful trip on the Mirage. As always, Captain Joe and his crew did a superb job making this great trip. I can hardly wait for my next trip with my best friend Captain Joe again. You guys are always number one of my list. And congratulation to Tucker on getting your Captain's license. I know you'll be a good one.
