The catfish bite has been very good with several stringers over 50 pounds reported this week. Tilapia are also showing in good numbers, and some bluegill have been reported as well.
The catfish bite continues to be best at night or in deeper water from boats during the day. The top baits have been mackerel and shrimp. The hot spot continues to be the south end.
Top catfish this week was caught by Melissa Welford, Norco, who landed a 19-0 on mackerel while fishing from boat. Dave Berry and D.J. Berry, both of Elsinore, caught a combined 15 catfish totaling 50-0 with a 7-0 topping the catch. Adam Smith, Temecula, caught six catfish totaling 16-0 with fish to 6-0. Mark Thomson and Chuck Williams, both of Riverside, teamed up for an 11 fish stringer of catfish totaling 21-0.
The tilapia bite remains good. Nightcrawlers fished in the shallow water has been the best bet for these fish, and some bluegill are also showing for anglers fishing the tilapia. Bud Welford, Norco, caught five tilapia and catfish totaling 15-4 on mackerel fishing from boat.
Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these $20 passes has a five-fish limit. The popular 24-hour fishing passes are offered every Friday and Saturday night through the rest of the summer. These passes have a 15-fish limit and cost $45. The lake is planted with catfish and tilapia each week.
