Fishing remains very good at Corona Lake with catfish, tilapia, and even some bluegill showing.
The catfish bite continues to be best at night or in deeper water from boats during the day. The top baits this past week have been mackerel and shrimp.
Top catfish this week was a 20-8 landed by Lance MacNiven, Bakersfield, on mackerel while fishing from shore. After taking pictures of the catch the big fish was released. Frank Carey, Chino, caught a stringer of catfish totaling 10-0 with a 7-0 topping the catch. Tim Duran Jr. and Tim Duran Sr., both of San Dimas, teamed up to catch eight catfish totaling 23-0 with fish to 4-0, all landed on shrimp. Thomas Lavopnig, Huntington Beach, caught five catfish totaling 12-0 on nightcrawlers.
The tilapia bite remains good. Nightcrawlers fished in the shallow water has been the best bet for these fish, and bluegill are also showing for anglers fishing the tilapia. D.J. Berry, Lake Elsinore, caught seven tilapia totaling 8-0 with fish to 2-0 on nightcrawlers fishing from shore.
Anglers have an opportunity to win a $250 prize package each week with the World Wide Web Cam event. Anglers simply need to bring their stringer of fish to the tackle shop, get their picture taken, and for each fish on their stringer they will receive a raffle ticket. Each week a winner will be drawn and the winner will be announced on http://www.fishingwebcam.com/. The event will last through this Sunday, July 29.
??Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these $20 passes has a five-fish limit. The popular 24-hour fishing passes are offered every Friday and Saturday night through the rest of the summer. These passes have a 15-fish limit and cost $45.
