Both largemouth and smallmouth bass bit well last week at Cachuma Lake on top waters as well as shallow cranks and most shad imitations.

Trout turned on a bit as well and leadcore fished at 5 or 6 colors with Rapalas seemed most productive. Although drifting 'crawlers by the dam accounted for some nice hold-over fish.

The Catfish bite seems to be coming on with cut mackerel and packaged dough baits in the back of coves.

Crappie were hitting mini jigs and mealworms in Santa Cruz and Cachuma Bays. Bowfishing was excellent throughout the day. The most productive area early has been in the river channel between Santa Cruz point and the sunken island. In the early to late afternoon find any mud line in the east end of the lake and you will find wide open action on 2 to 4 lb. Carp with the occasional double digit fish showing as well.
