Anglers have been getting a mixture of big trout, big catfish and even big sturgeon the past week at Santa Ana River Lakes. Fishing with a night-crawler will give you the advantage of catching any one of these species. Heaviest fish of the week was landed by Patrick Meurs of Yorba Linda. Patrick caught a 14 1/2 lb. sturgeon using a night-crawler by the pump house. Biggest trout was taken by Mark Gomez of Santa Ana. He took home 12 pound rainbow fishing with garlic green dough bait at the Bubble Hole. Chau Vo of Anaheim caught a 9 1/2 pound catfish using fresh shrimp at "The Road". Santiago Palacios of West Covina did a overnight fishing session and ended up with 8 catfish totaling 24 pounds. Santiago's largest catfish weighed in at 8 1/2 pounds using mackerel & shrimp. Chuck & Chris Mallory caught 8 trout and 1 catfish for a total of 12 lb. 8 oz. using a combination of rooster tails & white dough bait. Santa Ana River Lakes is open seven-days-a-week for both day & night fishing. The Catfish Grand Opening is scheduled for the big Memorial Day Weekend on May 23-24-25-26, and there will be 24-Hour Fishing all four days!!
