Fishing at Corona Lake was very good this week. Catfish, tilapia, and even some bluegill were all showing in good numbers.
The catfish bite has been best at night or from boats during the day. Top baits for catfish continue to be mackerel, shrimp, and nightcrawlers. A number of quality catfish were reported this week with the top fish being a 20-8 caught by Ray Newara, Riverside, on mackerel. Andre Austin, Hemet, caught a 7-0 on mackerel. Hever Ramos, Riverside, caught a 6-8 catfish to top his eight fish stringer totaling 32-0. Eddie Rosado, Stanton, caught 14 catfish totaling 20-8 with fish to 4-0 on nightcrawlers. Rick Hopkins, Glendora, and Randy Clark, Upland, teamed up to catch nine catfish totaling 22-0 with fish to 3-0 on nightcrawlers.
The tilapia bite remains good. Nightcrawlers fished in the shallow water has been the best bet for these fish, and a few bluegill are showing for anglers fishing the tilapia.
Anglers have an opportunity to win a $250 prize package each week with the World Wide Web Cam event. Anglers simply need to bring their stringer of fish to the tackle shop, get their picture taken, and for each fish on their stringer they will receive a raffle ticket. Each week a winner will be drawn and the winner will be announced on http://www.fishingwebcam.com/. The event will last through July 29.
Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these $20 passes has a five-fish limit. The popular 24-hour fishing passes are offered every Friday and Saturday night through the rest of the summer. These passes have a 15-fish limit and cost $45.
