Catfish once again get top billing, with kitties up to 10 lbs. being weighed in at the marina last week. Johnson's Bay, Drakes' cove and Sweetwater all produce limit or near limit action on cut mackerel, dough baits and chicken liver.

Bass fishing was a bit tougher, but limits can still be scratched. Drop shot, jigs, creatures, cranks and blades all took fish. The early top water bite has subsided as of late, but should return when the bait gets a little tighter to shore.

Crappie anglers had a slower week as well and guys that caught them were tight lipped about locations. Trout fishing took a nosedive, as only a few scattered 'bows were reported. Drifting crawlers near the dam at 50' to 60' was the most productive method. Bowfishing is fair early around the buoy line at the dam and in front of Clarks'. There were a few Redear and Bluegill taken on mealworms in Storke flats but overall fishing for them has been on the slow side.

Catfish dominated the action this week, as many anglers reported limits or near limits to 7 lbs. Mackerel accounted for the most kitties, but packaged dough baits and nightcrawlers also caught fish. The best areas were the back of Cachuma Bay, the narrows and Clark canyon. Both largemouth and smallmouth bass tapered off this week and are holding in 15 to 20 ft. of water and are taking drop shot plastics, spinnerbaits and an occasional early morning spook or...... Trout fishing went off again last week, with rainbows to 6 lbs. weighed in at the marina. Trolling leadcore down to 7 or 8 colors with dodger/crawler combos in the morning and drifting worms the rest of the day around the dam was the ticket. Bass fishing has been decent with topwaters early, crankbaits, dropshots and jigs working later. Fish are scattered from 2' to 20' in the water column. Catfish are still coming in on cut mackerel...... Read More
