We boarded the Mirage on Wednesday night in hopes of another great SFR charter aboard the Mirage. Captain Joe V informed us that the boat had full tanks of live squid and we were all eager to chase the exotics at the islands. Joe was willing to go the distance and take us to Santa Barbara Island where there had been some good fishing recently on the Yellowtail. On the way out we had a raffle and some lucky anglers were rewarded with flourocarbon line, SFR t-shirts and a Fishworks visor courtesy of SFR. At first light we started fishing for Yellowtail at SBI and Mark Highberg was first to hook up with a 30 lb Yellow that soon hit the deck. Soon after young angler Garegin Chepeian hooked and landed a very nice 35-pound Halibut and things were looking good. We stuck it out and gave our best shot before Captain Joe decided it was time to move out to the Osbourne Bank for some rockfish and white fish. We got into a pretty steady pick on some quality fish including some big Lincod to fill the sacks. Captain Joe was bound and determined to put some yellowtail on the boat so we headed back to SBI for in hopes of an afternoon bite. We gave it our best shot but it was not meant to be today. The captain and crew of the Mirage worked super hard to make sure we caught fish today and went above and beyond to get the exotics to play but that's fishing. Garegin's Halibut was the Jackpot fish of the trip and was almost as big as him! A big thanks to the Mirage crew for a great day on the water and a good crew of SFR anglers made it a nice day.
