Wow, can you believe it, July 1st - the summer is just flying by - Ma Nature saw fit to let the w-i-n-d die and the sun shine, and shine it did - what a beautiful week and weekend it was and we hear it's to stay the same for next week! Highs in the mid-70's - lows in the high-40's - nice and warm (remember it's all relative).
Catching, this week, was the name of the game - lots of limits leaving the Lake - those trolling and using leadcore are down about 4-5 colors and using Dave Davies and dragging a worm are a sure-fire way to catch a quick limit The Inlets are on fire with those using PowerBait and NightCrawlers. Drifting the rock piles using NightCrawlers, PowerBait & Salmon Eggs and enjoying the views of the mountains is a great way to spend the day on the Lake or find a nice shady spot under a quaking Aspen using the same things as if you were drifting the Lake although you may drift off to sleep. Got another stocking of fish from DFG on Monday.
Isabella Rosenthal caught her very first fish on a little pink Barbie pole - thanks to mom Gina and dad Adam of 1000 Oaks we hope we have another Lake Sabrina convert. We know we'll have lots of new converts as the 9th annual TMAFI (Table Mountain Annual Fishing Invitational) took place Saturday at the Lake - Carlee Barnes 3-time champ was upset this year by Jeff Hurley by a smidge for the largest fish - Dellan Hurley, Jeff's little guy also received an award for the smallest fish, but you talk about excitement - yup, he was pretty darn excited about his fish and his award - like I said - more converts for the Lake!
Well, I told you the wildflowers were starting to bloom - we've got Lilac, Yellow Columbine, Purple Iris, pretty yellow flower (on the side of the hill) Red Penstemons, Purple Penstemons and now, Pink Penstemons.
They started working on the bridge last week - they have roped off the North Lake Hiker parking area at the North Lake road - more than likely for the staging of their equipment. Those of you who have been up to the Lake this year may have noticed the markings on the road and markers at the 2nd bridge - also known as Cadillac Corner - due to a brand spankin' new Cadillac not makin the corner - ending up in the creek & bursting into flames (all parties survived). Inyo County is going to straighten the road and replace the bridge. Construction is to begin this month - the bridge is to be approximately 80 feet long and wide enough for two cars with pedestrian walk-ways on both sides.
KEEPING THIS IN - Guess it's that time of year to remind you of a few things - when using BUG JUICE - not many of them - think the last cold streak killed most of the big ones and the smaller ones haven't hatched yet (could be because of the lack of run-off) - or SANITIZER you need to really wash your hands before fishing - then rub some Salmon Egg juice, worm dirt or Anglers Bros Trout attractant (got it in stock at the Lake) to take that smell off. Remember your polarized dark glasses and sunscreen - we saw a few anglers that looked a bit like cooked lobster last year.
The weather is absolutely AWESOME - so nice Saturday evening - cranked up the tunes - sat on the deck and vegged - no skeeters - no people (but we will share the deck if you stop by) so very very relaxing - and that's why we work at the Lake - for days and evenings like probably tonight - Sunday - again! You can check www.weather.gov and enter ASPENDELL, CA on the site and it will give you a fairly good hint at the weather or check in with Howard at www.MammothWeather.com.
And, of course, we'll have HOMEMADE pie and ice cream (until it's gone), sodas, beer, wine, coffee, tea and hot cocoa!
Looking forward to seeing you all in the very near future.
