The excellent fishing continues around the Channel Islands with great scores of seabass and halibut finding the sacks for both the local 3/4 day boats and the outer island overnight boats fishing out of the Channel Island Sportfishing Center in Oxnard. Our recent SFR charter aboard the Mirage with Captain Tucker at helm was a big success with white seabass, halibut and calico bass hitting the deck for the lucky 22 anglers aboard. Everyone fished hard and we were able to land 8 quality seabass along with Frank Mumolo's toad 35 lb island flatty before conditions deteriorated and the bite fizzled. The calico bass fishing was excellent as well with a number of quality checkerboards hooked and landed, several in the 5 lb range. Throw in some quality rockfish and we ended the day with plenty of smiles and high fives to go around.
