The catfish bite has been very good at Corona Lake this past week thanks to huge weekly plants of both blue and Silver King channel catfish, and there is also a pretty good bite on bluegill to about a pound, a few nice largemouth bass, and some crappie.
A 12-pound catfish landed by Sergio Rodriguez, Riverside, was the top catfish of the week. It was taken from a boat by the tree line. Mike Diaz, Corona, had five catfish to five pounds for a 14-pound stringer, all caught on fresh shrimp in the back end of the lake from a boat. Rick Hayes, Chino, had nine cats for a 22-pound stringer fishing the marshmallow-worm combo from the dam shoreline.
Yarol Mono and Josh Lana, Orange, had five bluegill to a pound fishing wax worms off JD's Point, while Robert Alcala, Fontana, landed a five-pound bass at the same spot.
Corona Lake is one of only two waters in California being planted with blue catfish this season (the other being its sister water Santa Ana River Lakes). These blues are up to 20 pounds and have to potential to reach huge proportions as they feed and grow in this lake. Tilapia are also being planted each week, now.
