The trout action has been off the hook at Corona Lake and anglers targeting catfish are also getting hefty stringers of fish. The rainbows have mostly been in deeper water near the dam and along the far side of the lake and five-fish, 10-pound stringers have been common. The catfish have been moving into the shallows and brushy south end of the lake, and the few anglers targeting the whiskered fish are also getting some nice stringers, including some bigger fish.

The top rainbow reported this past week was an eight-pounder that topped off a five-fish, 25 3/4-pound catch made by Roy Trujillo and Andy Rivera, both of Claremont. Eric, Cruze, and Alex Gilbert, all from the Inland Empire, landed 15 rainbows that weighed in at 41 pounds, including one fish at 6 1/2 pounds. The trio was fishing Lip RipperZ Rat Tails from shore at the dam. Jeff, Matt, and Ashley Sugleford, Riverside, landed 15 rainbows that weighed 28 pounds on inflated nightcrawlers off J.D.'s Point. Jeff and Michelle Chadkowski, Pomona, landed 10 rainbows for a 21 1/4-pound total, including one rainbow at 4 3/4 pounds, while Ava, Jason, and Frank Sullivan, had eight rainbows for 17 3/4 pounds.

The best bite has been on floating dough baits in bright colors, especially those impregnated or doused with garlic scent. The Berkley Mice Tails, Lip Ripper Ratz, small artificial trout worms, and small jigs are also good bets. The top catfish report was a 10 1/2 pounds landed by Eddie and Jessica Jimenez, Pacoima. The pair had four trout for six pounds or rainbow and orange Power Bait along with four catfish totaling 21 pounds on chicken liver fishing ear the boat ramp. Veronica Coffey, Corona, landed nine catfish for 33 1/2 pounds on mackerel, and her best channel was an eight-pounder.

The bass, bluegill and crappie are also showing in pretty fair numbers, with all those species well into their annual spawn and haunting shoreline structure.

The annual angler appreciation day set for this Saturday, April 28. This is when anglers paying for one entry into the lake will get another free entry for a fishing partner with a couple available on The Lakes website at www.fishinglakes.com. Anglers will also want to mark the caldendar for Lip RipperZ' trout tournament set to be held May 5.

Top fish reported was a 10-pound rainbow landed by Manuel Berru, Los Angeles, fishing a marshmallow-nightcrawler combo right off the Sandy Beach. Ron Celta, Irvine, landed a seven trout stringer that weighed 23-pounds, 14-ounces, topped off with a 5 1/4-pounder,...... Read More
