This past week sasw the best trout action since last year. With back to back plants from Calaveras, and Nebraska's famous "Tail Walkers", the fishing was excellent. Many fish weighed in at the derby were in the 5 to 6 lb. range. One angler, Connor McCanna brought in an 8.5 lb. trout to the scales. Limit style action was common for both shore anglers and for those trolling. Rapalas, needlefish, Thomas Buoyants and just about every other type of floating bait was getting bit.
The bass bite tapered off some at the end of the week, but double digit days could be had with some work. Senkos, spinnerbaits drop shot plastics, and lipless cranks all got it done on both the smallies and the largies to 5 lbs.
Crappie seemed to have slowed just a bit; most likely due to only a few anglers targeting them. Cachuma Bay and the narrows have been the best areas for the slabs. Carp were found all over the lake both early and late, but were very spooky for the most part. A few catfish also came in, and the warming temps should see them bite well soon.
