The trout fishing at Corona Lake has remained excellent this past week with a lot of quality rainbows to 17 pounds and hefty stringer stringers the norm.

The catfish and crappie bites are also starting to kick into high gear. The best rainbow landed this past week was a 17  ?-pounder caught by Lino Jubilado, Alhambra, with a trout worm while fishing from a float tube. Tim Rogers, Covina, had a 10  ?-pound trout on a Panther Martin while fishing from shore, while Robert Chavez, West Covina, topped off his 10-fish, 21  ?-pound stringer with a 9  ?-pound rainbow. All were caught on green dough bait from a boat fishing mid-lake. An eight-pound trout was caught by Owen Delacruz, Lake Elsinore, fishing from the dam shoreline with yellow floating bait.

Best stringer of the week was posted by Robert, Dolly, and Leo Miller, along with Henry Rodriguez, all of Harbor City. The four landed 20 trout for a total weight of 50  ? pounds with the best fish at 4  ? pounds. They were fishing from a boat with chartreuse and rainbow floating bait. Jeff, Trinity, Brian and Dan Delany, all Riverside, had 14 rainbows for 26  ?-pounds fishing Lip RipperZ jigs with garlic scent at mid-lake from a boat. Gary, Robert, and John Sparks, all Corona, had 14 trout for 24  ? pounds fishing Mice Tails from a boat. Their top fish was a 3  ? pounder.

The bite has been good on a wide range of floating dough baits in bright colors, and the "mouse" combos with a floating bait head and a trout plastic or nightcrawler tail have also been very good. Small jigs and trout plastics have also been good bets, and adding a garlic scent to all the different baits or lures had been a good idea.

The crappie have been showing in the south end of the lake in the flooded brush with fish up to two pounds or better reported on small jigs, and the catfish action is also kicking into gear for anglers targeting the cats with cut baits. Steve Guardamondo, Mira Loma, landed a 27-pound, 10-ounce catfish on nightcrawlers.

The only plant of Lightning Trout this season is slated for this week. These gold and crimsom trout are some of the most popular fish planted each season at Corona Lake.
