Catfish action was very good with lots of fish showing this past week at Corona Lake. Mackerel has been the bait of choice and anglers fishing from boat in the south end of the lake were having the most success.
Donnie Ballew, Moreno Valley, caught the top catfish this week at 22 pounds. Ballew caught the fish on Redneck Dave's Catfish Bait and released it after taking pictures. Paul and Rob Maycock, Hemet, caught 10 catfish totaling 23 pounds on nightcrawlers. Justin Torres, Ontario, caught a stringer of three catfish totaling 9.25 pounds on shrimp fishing from shore.
The tilapia bite has been very good especially in the south end. Fishing nightcrawlers along the bottom has been the best bet for these fish, and a few bluegill and bass are also showing for anglers fishing the nightcrawlers. Eric Nocter, Corona, caught a 6-0 bass on a plastic worm fishing from boat.
??Some trout are still showing in the deep water. Keith Brown, Glendora, caught a 9-0 rainbow on a nightcrawler fishing in the trees.
Starting this week anglers will have an opportunity to win a $250 prize package each week with the World Wide Web Cam event. Anglers simply need to bring their stringer of fish to the tackle shop, get their picture taken, and for each fish on their stringer they will receive a raffle ticket. Each week a winner will be drawn and the winner will be announced on http://www.fishingwebcam.com/ . The event will begin this Friday, June 15, and will last through July 29.
Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these $20 passes has a five-fish limit. The popular 24-hour fishing passes are offered every Friday and Saturday night through the rest of the summer. These passes have a 15-fish limit and cost $45.
