Catfish action was very good for the official catfish season opener with lots of fish showing. Anglers fishing from boat in the south end of the lake were having the most success. Patty Edwards, Fontana, caught the top cat this week at 7.5 pounds on mackerel. Brenda and Bryan Taylor, San Dimas, caught a stringer of cats totaling over 30 pounds with fish to 5-0 on nightcrawlers fishing from shore. John Smith, Corona, caught a stringer totaling 20-0 on mackerel fishing from a boat.

Tilapia have been reported near the lily pads in the south end. Fishing nightcrawlers along the bottom has been the best bet for these fish.

Some trout are still showing in the deep water. Joel Lopez, Riverside, caught a 10-0 trout on nightcrawlers fishing from a boat.

Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these $20 passes has a five-fish limit. The popular 24-hour fishing passes are offered every Friday and Saturday night through the rest of the summer. These passes have a 15-fish limit and cost $45.
