High winds and the water temp falling a few degrees made for tough fishing conditions this week, and most anglers went home with their tails between their legs.
There has been a very early bass bite in Johnson's Bay; senkos and creature baits were picking off both small and largemouth bass.
Trout were difficult to come by, but trolling 3 to 4 colors of lead core with Kastmasters and crawler/dodger combos in the main channel produced some action and rainbows to 4 lbs. were reported.
Crappie still not going off as yet, but some were caught in the narrows with mini jig/crawler combinations.
Bow fishing was good around the island early, with groups of carp feeding on the surface, but poor water clarity hindered the action some.
A number of catfish were caught in the backs of shallow coves, but water temp needs to come up a bit for the kitties to really start chewing. Only an handful of redear and bluegill were reported at the boat launch.

5-23-2011Trout fishing has been fair, with most anglers coming in with a handful of quality hold-over rainbows. Still fishing in the narrows with inflated "crawlers or PowerBait" was the hot ticket, although there were some nice catches on trolled worms/dodger combos behind 3 to 4 colors of lead core. Crappie still have not completely gone off as of yet, but there was as many as 10 fish per angler in some locations. However those locations were not disclosed. ...... Read More
Bass seem to be on the hunt at Cachuma
Cachuma LakeBass fishing has been good just about all over the lake, and senkos and creature baits pitched in the brush are accounting for most of the catches. Most fish are in the top 5 ft. of the water column. There have been shad up tight and dippable at least twice last week, and if you can get a hold of that it should be good for all species. Trout fishing was fair and the cooler weather had the 'bows...... Read More
