Corona Lake's final trout plant of the season went in last week, and the bite has been excellent ever since with limits common for anglers fishing deeper water at the dam and in the main channel through the middle of the lake from boats and tubes.
The Nebraska Tailwalkers were all quality rainbows from 1 1/2 to four pounds with a few bigger, and the action has been best on rainbow and green garlic floating baits and inflated garlic nightcrawlers.
Catfish season kicks off this week with a double plant of Silver King cats, one on Tuesday and one on Friday this week. The catfish bite has been pretty good on holdover fish and from plants earlier this year that were put in quietly to prime the catfish season pump. With catfish season, Corona Lake is now open every Friday and Saturday night to 24-hour fishing. The "official" Catfish Grand Opening will be the weekend of May 20-22 with bonus plants of trophy cats, and next week will also kick off of weekly tilapia plants.
Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these passes is $22. Seniors pay only $20. All of these passes have a five-fish limit.. For kids 4 to 13, a three-fish pass is just $9. The 24-hour passes are available every Friday and Saturday night.

As trout season winds down, catfish plants kick off this week at Santa Ana River Lakes
Santa Ana River LakesSanta Ana River Lakes has two major fishing changes starting this week. First, weekly catfish plants begin, and second, no-limit trout fishing starts Friday so anglers can take home as many of the rainbows left in the lake as possible before it gets too warm for them to survive. The kick-off of catfish season also means there is now 24-hour fishing every Friday and Saturday night each week. The "family special" applies to the 24-hour passes, when mom and dad and......
