The trout action has been good to excellent at Corona Lake for both shore and boat anglers fishing the north end of the lake. The big trout plant last week for Saturday's Angler Appreciation (two-for-one) Day. There was also a plant of tilapia to kick off that season.

The best action has been on small trout plastics, trout jigs, and the usual array of floating baits -- about in that order. This week's big plant of Nebraska Tailwalkers will be the last trout plant of the season, and starting Friday, May 13, the limit on trout will be lifted so anglers can catch all the trout possible before the water becomes too warm for them to survive.

While getting less fishing pressure, the catfish and carp bite both have been good, with cut baits and the marshmallow-meal worm combo working best for the cats and homemade dough baits the best for the carp. Quite a few bass, bluegill, and a few crappie also are showing, along with the odd sturgeon.

Anglers should note this weekend is the beginning of 24-hour fishing every Friday and Saturday night (not just on full moon weekends), and catfish season kicks off with plants next Tuesday and Friday (May 10 and 13) next week and every week after that through the summer. The "official" Catfish Grand Opening will be the weekend of May 20-22 with bonus plants of trophy cats and the kick off on weekly tilapia plants.

Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these passes is $22. Seniors pay only $20. All of these passes have a five-fish limit. For kids 4 to 13, a three-fish pass is just $9. The 24-hour passes are available every Friday and Saturday night. These passes cost $60 and anglers can bring a spouse and up to three kids to help fill the 24-hour pass 15-fish limit. Camping at Corona Lake is also free with a 24-hour pass.
