The trout action has been excellent at Corona Lake and there were three giant rainbows caught this past week along with the season's best largemouth bass.

The biggest trout was a 21 1/2-pounder landed by Brad Hutchinson, Corona, while fishing a black and chrome spoon at the dam. Bernard Garcia, Fontana, caught a 20-pound rainbow on chicken liver from shore, while Diego Ogata, Ontario, landed a 19 1/2-pounder on a Thomas Buoyant near the boat dock.

Limits of rainbow trout and Lightning trout have been common this past week with typical five-fish stringer weighing from 10 to 15 pounds. Gary Loope, Corona, had five trout for 14 pounds with his top fish a four-pounder. Paul Lopiccolo, Corona, landed five rainbows at 11 1/2 pounds, while Chris Tuey, had five for 10 1/2 pounds. Most stringers had at least two or three Lightning Trout and some anglers filled all their slots with the golden-colored trout.

The big bass was a 13 1/4-pounder caught and released by Ernie Esquibel, Fontana, while fishing a nightcrawler from a boat at mid lake. The bass bite has been pretty fair with a lot of male bass moving into the shallows to fan out spawning beds.

Also quite a few crappie are starting to show for anglers fishing small crappie jigs.

Anglers are reminded that fish cleaning is now available by the lake's staff members, and if anglers are having trout catching fish, they should check with the lake guides who are happy to share information and tips on fishing techniques and locations that have been hot.
