The trout bite at Corona Lake has simply been wide open over the past week with limits common, and most stringers have had at least one or two kicker fish from four to seven pounds.
The biggest trout landed by an 18-pounder caught by Mike Robertson, La Habra, while fishing the point with chartreuse floating bait. Bill Raub, Chino, topped off his four-fish stringer with a 14-pound rainbow fishing rainbow dough bait at the dam, and Bob Gibbs, Moreno Valley, landed trout at 11 and 10 pounds from a boat on chartreuse floating biat. Mike Rappo, Murrieta, caught a 10-pound rainbow.
A pretty typical catch was the 18-fish stringer posted by Robert Bliss, Jimmy Marchand, Matthew Marchand, and Zach Blessing, all from Fontana, that weighed in at 25 ? pounds fishing from a boat with floating bait. The biggest fish was a three-pounder. John Morris, Rancho Cucamonga, caught seven trout for 21-4 on nightcrawlers from shore, and his top fish was a five-pounder. Nearly identical stringers of six-fish that weighed 18 pounds were posted by Jose and Elexic Sevilla, Los Angeles, and Bill Hartman, Ontario. Hartman's top fish was a five-pounder.
The trout are showing all around the lake for shore, float tube, and boat anglers. The hot baits for all the trout have been the green or chartreuse and orange floating dough baits and jig anglers are hammering the fish on green, orange, and white trout jigs.
Anglers are reminded that fish cleaning is now available by the lake's staff members, and if anglers are having trout catching fish, they should check with the lake guides who are happy to share information and tips on fishing techniques and locations that have been hot.

3-8-2011It has been two years since float tubes were allowed at Santa Ana River Lake, but it has always been one of the most productive ways to catch more and bigger trout at SARL. There will be a special instructional float tube event this Saturday where anglers can fish with veterans and learn the tricks that make the tubes so effective. The best part is that tube launching is free for the Saturday event (normally launching is $5) and $2-off entry...... Read More
