Trout fishing showed a lot of improvement after two weeks of below average action. The fishes were scattered from the surface to 30 feet, with anything from rapalas on the surface to needlefish at 4 to 5 colors all producing nice catches of rainbows to 5 lbs. Shore fishing has picked up as well. E point and Harveys were the top locations, power bait and night crawlers once again were the top baits. The next plant is scheduled for Feb. 15. The bass bite has come around as well, and both the largies and smallies taking jigs and spoons in the 20 to 35 foot death range, with the river channel and main lake points the best locations. There was also a bit of a crappie bite, but anglers were tight lipped about baits and areas. All other species absent from the count, which was as follows: 249 anglers reported 208 trouts, 49 smallmouths, 93 largemouths, and 17 crappies for a 1.5 fish per rod average.

The best shore locations continued to be E point and Harveys. Inflated nightcrawlers and power bait the beat offerings. All other species were slow but hopefully a slight water temperature change should improve the bite. Rate the action based over the past week: Bass...... Read More
Cachuma Lake Fishing Report
Cachuma LakeThe trout fishing slowed a little this week, and the full moon coupled with the warm weather put the rainbows down a bit deeper than they had been previously. But those that tried various depths were rewarded with some nice catches. Jim Stornetta of Santa Maria trolled a dodger and 'crawler combo down rigged to ten feet caught an impressive 8 lb. "tail walker" off of E point. Rapalas were still the most productive lure, with needle...... Read More
