Lake Elevation: 1740
Surface water temp: 67 - 71 degrees
Fish Plants: Rainbow trout, 2,400 pounds May 17th.
Lake Hours: 6:00 am - 6:30 pm.
Weather: the temperatures have been in the 60's in the mornings then jumping up to the 90's by mid day. There have been winds in the afternoon ranging from 6-10 miles per hour.
Bass: It was another week of wide open bass fishing at DVL with 1-2 pound??spawning bass being caught in the backs of coves and along the dams as well as larger post spawn fish being picked up on the points. Successful anglers seeking bedded fish have been working sandy or gravely areas in the backs of the coves generally in 5- 15 feet of water. For those seeking a larger catch fishing deeper has been effective. The most reported baits for spawning bass have been Yamamoto Senkos and Ikas in watermelon or green pumpkin as well as Carolina or Texas rigged plastics 6-10" with purple and green being the most reported colors. There have been many anglers getting hefty limits drop shotting 4" morning dawn Roboworms on the points 25 feet down. Rawson Cove has been the most reported bass cove this week, with the third cove of the shore line fishing area, the north corner of the east dam, the west dam, and around the saddle dam also producing well. Shoreline anglers have had consistent catches, but with less success than the boat anglers. "Calibassman" reported he C&R'd 72 fish this week. He had good luck sight fishing in the morning then moved to the drop shot when the waters got choppy. Zach Smith of Redlands got a 5.17 pound largemouth fishing with a senko 18 feet down. Dustin Cassady of Corona got a 7.2 pound bass fishing on the west side with a Prism Shad Roboworm. Chester Deen of Hemet got a 5 pound bass fishing with a brush hog 2o feet down.
Trout: Trout fishing has been great this week. Shoreline and boat anglers have been getting limits with Kastmasters, Power Bait and Roostertails being the top baits. The marina has been the top spot for stockers. The holdover bite has seen a remarkable improvement. The west dam, east dam, saddle dam, and near restroom 3. Holdover trout have been spread throughout the water column. Reports have trout being caught from 10 -40 feet either by trolling spoons or cranks, or drifting night crawlers. Hot lures for trolling are Needlefish, kastmasters, Team Diawa minnow lures, and shad pattern Rapalas. Ray Heyden of Palm Desert got a 7 pound trout in the marina, fishing with a trout pattern jointed Rapala. James Nissen of San Jacinto got a 5.88 pound trout fishing in the marina with night crawlers. Jerry Griffin of Hemet got a 7.33 pound trout while trolling a Mepps lure on the west dam at 35 feet. Shoreline angler William Dover III of Compton got a 6 pound trout fishing with Powerbait at 10 feet. Bill Perry of Cherry Valley got a 5.74 pound trout trolling at 25 feet along the south side of the wave attenuator with a trout pattern Rapala. Devin Baro got a 5.85 pound trout on yellow Powerbait. He was fishing 30 feet down in the marina. Tom Wucherpiennig of Menifeegot a 26.08 pound limit with his biggest weiging 6.4 pounds. He was fishing with night crawlers on the west dam. Shore angler Scott Noble of Riverside got the biggest trout of the week at 10.91 pounds. He was fishing with mini jigs combined with a Powerworm trailer.
Striper: There were no striper reports this week.
Catfish: There have been some reports of catfish being caught near rawson cove or in the third cove of shoreline fishing. Most reported baits have been night crawlers or mackerel.
Panfish: There has been small amounts of crappie and blue gill being caught this week. Cody Nelson of Hemet got a pound crappie. He was fishing with night crawlers in the south east corner of the lake.

Lake Record Striper November 11, 2005: Art Berry of Hemet; 29.77 lb. striper caught at East Dam using swimbait.
Lake Record Largemouth Bass March 16th 2007: DVL would like to congratulate Mike Long of Poway who became the new Largemouth bass record holder this week with a 16.43 pound bass. He was fishing the west dam with a 6" "Real Trout" Rago swimbait.
Lake Record Crappie: 3.0 pounds landed by Keith Thomas. He was fishing with shad.
Lake Record Blue Gill: John Arganda, of?? Menifee, broke the lake pan fish record by bringing in a 3.06 pound blue gill. He got it on a night crawler fishing near the saddle dam.
Lake Record Catfish January 19, 2007: Congratulations to Doug Hagadorn of Valley Center! He caught a 32.80 pound catfish. He was fishing at 60 feet with a Pig N' Jig around the first island on the north shore.
Lake Record Trout, March 12, 2005: Shawn Luhmann got a 11.30 pound rainbow trout on on the shoreline fishing area.
