Bass
Bass did not disappoint this week. Swim baits were bringing in some quality fish this week. Z -Plugs, California Swimbabes, and Huddlestons were the most reported baits. Drop shotting plastics remained a mainstay for a 15-20 fish day. Ice jig reports were still coming through as a valid technique for deep fishing. The east dam, the west dam, shore line fishing, and the point to the left of the marina were the most reported lake locales for those looking for bass. Rene Chavez of Hemet brought in a 6.60 lbs bass fishing lures off the shore line.
Trout
The trout are smiling on the New Year with most fish caught from 10-25 feet near the marina mainly along the shoreline fishing area. Kastmasters, mini jigs, Power Worms, and nightcrawlers were all seducing the trout. Pedro Moreno of Buena Park caught a 5.4 lb rainbow trout using powerbait on the DVL shore line. Four-year-old Izabella Owizdak caught a 2.10 lbs off the western shore line. Anticipate a stronger trout bite after this week's trout plant.
Striper
Trout swim baits, Plugs or stick baits were the most reported lures for striper. Striper fishing seems to be best either early in the morning, in the late afternoon, or on overcast days. Fishing points near the marina or on the west dam is advised. Happy New Year to Yvonne Southerland of Fontana who reeled in a 13 lbs striper using a z-plug on the shoreline.
Catfish
Catfish are still lively at DVL. Best bet is the rock quarry or wave attenuator. The most effective baits included anchovies, mackerel, and raw shrimp. Most catfish have been found on the bottom in 25 - 50 feet.
Panfish
The panfish are M.I.A. in the cold DVL waters, but if you are determined jigs, nightcrawlers, and mealworms are typical baits for panfish with the dams being the best spots.
