Trout action remains good at Corona Lake

The trout bite has remained very good at Corona Lake in spite of the hot weather. The trout will continue to be stocked through May 16, and limits of trout are caught every day on both floating baits and small trout jigs. There is also improving bass and catfish action.??
The best rainbow landed this past week was a nice 13-pound rainbow caught by Mike Policari, Rancho Cucamonga, fishing a jig from a boat at mid-lake. Chuck Ridley, Riverside, caught an 8 ?? pounder fishing chartreuse Nitro Bait, while Andrew Pettway, Lynwood, caught an eight-pounder on Berkley Gulp.
The best catfish was a 16-pounder landed by Melissa Welford, Norco, on mackerel from a boat, and Frank Orr, Fontana, caught a 4 ??-pound largemouth.
Catfish season will begin May 24-27 with the first major plants of the season, and the official catfish opener will be May 31-June 3 with a bonus plant of trophy catfish.?? The popular 24-hour fishing passes will be offered every weekend beginning May 18th and 19th.?? These passes have a 15-fish limit and cost $45.
Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these $20 passes has a five-fish limit.
