Very good trout fishing at Corona Lake this past week. The top trout was an 18-pound rainbow caught by Sam Yearber, Riverside, on a nightcrawler near the dam -- a fish bigger than any trout caught in California this opening weekend of the statewide trout season.
Other big fish included a nice mess of fish caught by Tim Bryant, Corona, over two days of fishing. His trio of trout weighed in at 8-0, 10-0, and 10-8. Steven Aarons, Riverside, caught a 13 1/2-pound trout on a jig at the dam. Shane Roberts and Matt Thomas, both of Riverside, caught ten trout totaling 56 1/2 pounds on Lip Ripperz at the dam.
The sturgeon planted last month continue to put on a good show. Several 70-plus pound sturgeon were actually hooked and landed this week, but most that are hooked are still being broken off.??
The catfish bite has been good in the evening hours with mackerel being the best bait. Also more and more bluegill and bass being caught.
Corona Lake is open seven days a week with fishing allowed from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. on day passes or from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. on an evening pass. Each of these $20 passes has a five-fish limit. The lake's 24-hour passes are available one weekend a month, usually on the Friday and Saturday night nearest the full moon. These passes have a 15-fish limit and cost $45.

Trout fishing remains hot at Santa Ana River Lakes
Santa Ana River Lakes??Living up to the billing as being "better than the Eastern Sierra trout opener," the Santa Ana River Lakes again produced more and bigger trout than the entire Sierra region. While the big fish at SARL was a mere 14 3/4 pounds, that nearly doubled the size of the biggest fish caught in the Sierra.?? ??With the warm weather continuing the trout are still congregating in deeper water. Shore anglers need to make long casts to get further out in the...... Read More
