Laguna Niguel Lake trout season opener was a blast, but we did not get the crowd we were anticipating. Anglers of all ages had the time of their life bring in their limits. Beautifully colored, hearty, and hard fighting rainbows with an average size of 3 lbs were caught by lucky anglers all over the lake. The boats as well as the shore were productive this last weekend. Fishing was at its best pretty much all day. Leaders about 10-12 inches was the ticket. A variety of baits including night crawlers inflated with garlic oil, salmon eggs, power worms and multi colored power bait (rainbow, chartreuse, garlic, purple nymph, and salmon orange) were the best. The best fishing spots from shore is by the point, launch ramp and the flats. The best fishing spots in a boat have been in front of the dock by the bubble hole, three pipes, down by the dam and in the flats. The fly fishermen have been successful in the flats using black and olive midges.

 ? Jaxon Cochrun age 7 caught his first rainbow of the season weighing in at a whopping 1.5 lbs!! Jaxon & his dad were fishing from a boat in the flats using as Jaxon explains "his fishin' pole & one worm". He was so excited. Congrates Jaxon.

 ? Fred Anderson of Anaheim landed his limit with the largest weighing in at 3lbs. He was fishing with his buddies by the launch ramp using an array of baits (chartreuse power bait, night crawlers inflated with garlic oil, garlic power bait).
