Castaic fell slightly to 72 percent of the It’s storage capacity, and water temperatures remained in the upper fifties. Large and smallmouth have been the best bet for Castaic anglers with reports of decent fishing in the afternoons. Drop shot, Carolina rigs, and Ned rigs all fooled fish in the 15-to-30-foot zone. Patient anglers metered deeper schools of bass and dropped ice jigs and War Eagles on them. Striped bass remained elusive with the occasional report from bait anglers soaking cut sardines along the dam. Trolling techniques have been effective for striped bass as well. Catfish went after cut baits and dip bait. Trout anglers reported that the massive trout dispersed throughout the lake, and they took weightless Senkos, small jerkbaits, and spoons. Shore anglers used Powerbait, Mousetails, and Hookup Baits to land some solid rainbows.
