Castaic water levels have settled at 87 percent of capacity, and water temperatures fell into the low to mid-seventies. Bass fishing was off the hook last week with topwater anglers boating more fish than they could count. Anglers got out early or late for the topwater bite. Large and smallmouth took Spooks and Rapala Skitter Walks in white and bone colors until 9 or 10 AM and again after 5 PM. Bass were also readily available on main and secondary points for anglers tossing drop shot, shaky heads and Senkos in shad Natural Shad, Aaron’s Magic, and Morning Dawn. Striped bass moved closer to shore, and boils can be found in both arms of the lake. Successful striped bass anglers had multiple rods rigged and ready with topwater, spoons, and Flukes. A local fly angler reported getting in on the action with white streamer flies. Catfish anglers did well along the dam and at West Ramp while soaking cut baits.
