Castaic Lake held near 76 percent of capacity, and water temperatures have been in the upper fifties. Trout anglers continued to report biting rainbows up to three pounds throughout the lake. Dough baits, Pinched Crawlers and Mouse Tails all fooled fish, but bass anglers also found biting schools of trout while throwing jerkbaits and spoons. Big bait anglers threw magnum topwater, glide baits, and swimbaits in hopes of connecting with giant striper, but that bite has been slow. Striped bass took trolled flies and cut baits near the inlet and in Elizabeth Canyon. Bass anglers reported a few good days while finesse fishing. Carolina rigs, drop shot, and Ned rigs in shad, green pumpkin, and Ox Blood seemed to work the best in deeper water. Catfish anglers used dip baits and chicken liver in deeper coves around the lake.
