Castaic Lake rose to 80 percent of capacity, and the water is still very muddy. High winds kept boats off the water early in the week, and bass anglers reported tough conditions. There are better days ahead; the spring bite is just around the corner. In the spring Castaic anglers normally do well with Green Pumpkin Senkos, drop shot, and Ned rigs in brown and bait fish colors. Jerkbaits and crankbaits are also effective on windy spring days. Striped bass ate cut sardines and lugworms soaked from the dam and in 25 to 90 feet of water. Trollers also scored bites while pulling umbrella rigs. Catfish ate dip bait and chicken liver.
