We are still waiting on our next trout plant, hopefully this next week. The schedule was calling for a stocking, but the truck had showed up and decided to turn around due to debris in the water or the lack of traction from the debris on the launch ramp. The fishing has been on the tough side, and with the lake levels constantly changing it has been a little tough to find a pattern for most fish species.
The striper bite is still decent with most fish coming off lug worms, nightcrawlers, and cut bait. Trolling around a jerk bait, fly, or umbrella rig has also been working for anglers. Lead-core line and a fish finder are key tools for targeting deeper fish lately. The big swimbait bite has been a little slow, especially with the lack of trout lately.
Largemouth fishing has been on the slow side. Finesse style baits, small jigs, and a few reaction baits have been producing in this bad water clarity. Natural and darker colors have been working best. The water is slowly starting to clear up a bit but still is looking like chocolate milk.
The catfish have been biting from shore and by boat. Most fish have been caught off any type of cut bait or nightcrawlers. Mackerel and chicken liver working best.
The bluegill and crappie bite has been tough, and the lower lagoon has been the better place to target these species. Wax worms, meal worms, and crappie jigs/ tubes are working best.
Fingers crossed the DFG truck comes this week and stocks the trout that we missed out on! Trout fishing has been slow but anglers still can manage to catch one around the marina every now and then. Power-baits, tubes, and small trout jigs are usually what is working.

Castaic Lake Fishing Report
Castaic LakeThis year has been a tough one where Mother Nature hasn’t been holding back her fury. Winds, bad rains and debris from the past fires have been putting a damper on the fishing lately. You can fish around the marina when the debris gets bad and boat launching has stopped, just try to not cast near it because it is an automatic snag. We had received word about the trout truck coming to the main launch ramp on Friday last...... Read More
Castaic Lake Fishing Report
Castaic LakeWe finally received another trout stocking on Tuesday, 01/03/2023. A good way to start 2023! Most anglers are having good luck with inline spinners, spoons, and mini jigs. Power-bait and nightcrawlers would also work. The striper bite has been steady, with a lot of smaller sized fish still being caught. Most fish have been caught using sardines, anchovies, and lug worms. Trolling has also been a good way to target these species. The swimbait bite has been a tough one...... Read More
